Course Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

• Perform a safe scene size-up and don PPE before patient contact.
• Check responsiveness and activate help/AED immediately using clear role assignment.
• Complete a simultaneous breathing and carotid pulse check in ≤10 seconds and recognize agonal gasps as not normal breathing.
• Begin chest compressions without delay once arrest is identified.
• Deliver high-performance compressions (rate/depth/recoil; minimal pauses) according to local protocol expectations.
• Manage airway and BLS ventilation (OPA/NPA selection, suction, 30:2 BVM with visible chest rise, avoid over-ventilation).
• Integrate the AED with minimal CPR interruption, clear for analysis/shock, and resume compressions immediately post-shock.
• Run two-minute CPR cycles with a compressor switch in ≤5 seconds and prompt rhythm analysis.
• Implement CCEMSA 510.08 special considerations: ROSC care (reassess 3–5 min, airway/oxygen/monitor) and naloxone 2–4 mg IN for suspected overdose without delaying CPR/defibrillation.
• Make transport/termination decisions consistent with CCEMSA (e.g., continue on-scene stabilization; follow local guidance for initiation/termination/transport timing).
